1. Read a book before you go to sleep rather than watching the TV or computing because the blue light from the screen mimics daylight and signals time to wake up. Wear a sleep mask if you have ambient light in the room. Pillows
2. Take a warm bath before bedtime with a soothing bath oil to wash off the cares of the day and soothe and nourish your body. If you prefer a shower, rinse your hair to remove allergens. Bath and Body
3. Use a natural sleep aromatherapy rather than sleeping pills, which can be addictive, interact with other medicines, and give you a morning sleep "hangover". Aromatherapy
4. Keep your conversation sweet before bed so your mind can relax and get out of the problem-solving mode. Think on all of the things that make you grateful to be alive.
5. Try to develop a healthy sleep rhythm to get to bed at the same time every night and allow 7 hours or more for sleep.
6. If you have a little baby awakening you at night, take naps when the baby naps during the daytime if you can and return to normal sleeping patterns when baby sleeps through the night.
7. Put three hours in between your last meal and bedtime.
8. Keep cool water beside your bed so you don't have to go to the kitchen if you become thirsty in the middle of the night.
9. Soothe yourself if you awaken in the middle of the night, like your Mother used to do for you: Add soothing sounds, hum a lullaby, gently rock from side to side, ask for a back rub, or cuddle your lover or pillow, whatever gets you in touch with your inner child.
