How to use Pressed Lavender Flowers

Pressed lavender flowers make a beautiful embellishment to stationary, cards and artwork and are surprisingly easy to make and durable to mail. Nancy Thompson and daughter Holly sent us the wedding invitation featured on our wedding page with the following instructions:

1. Use a paper punch to create two little holes side by side on the front of your invitation

2. Loop the narrow ribbon (or two shades of ribbon together) through the holes, insert the bouquet, and tie a knot to hold it to the card.

3. Anchor the little "lavender bouquet" with glue dots (2-3 pressed flowers)

4. Use glue stick for touch ups if the lavender moves too much

Another craft project: Lavender Coasters

1. Have a glazier cut 1/8-inch-thick clear glass into 3 1/2-inch squares, and sand the edges.

2. Select 3-5 pressed lavender stems (from lavendergreen.com) and arrange them on one pane of glass using tweezers.  Its helpful to use a little clear glue to hold them in place.

3. Carefully place a second pane on top, and use binder blips to hold them together.

4. Take a strip of copper foil tape (found at Michales) and wrap it along the edge of the glass, overlapping the ends slightly.

5.  Rub the tape thoroughly until the edge is smooth.
 
To add a background, use rubber stamps with "stays on" ink before placing the lavender stems.  You may also add very thin ribbon or anything else that will not cause a gap in the two pieces of glass.
