About Essential Oils and Synergies
Aromatherapy Q & A

by Ginna Gemmell

Q.What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are distilled from herbs and plants and are from 50 to 70 times more therapeutic than their original plant. They are nature’s medicine.

Q. What are Essential Oil Synergies?

Essential Oil Synergies are unique combinations of 3 or more Essential Oils that each have their own medicinal qualities; and when added together, create new oil with all of the original properties plus benefits from their synergy. The combination of oils forms a more effective and synergistic compound targeted to specific, desired outcomes.

Q. How do they work?

Essential oils have a chemical structure that is similar to that found in human cells and tissue. This makes essential oils compatible with human protein and enables them to be readily identified and accepted by the body.

When Essential oils are inhaled, the fragrance molecules enter the body through the nose and are transported to the olfactory system. The olfactory membranes signal the brain’s limbic region which then influences the key hormone-secreting glands impacting the entire body. Essential oils also can be absorbed through the skin and enter the bloodstream. When topically applied to the feet or elsewhere, essential oils can travel throughout the body in a matter of minutes.

Q What are the Benefits of Essential Oils?

The inhalation of Essential oils can be used to combat stress and emotional trauma, but they can also stimulate the production of hormones from the hypothalamus. This results in increased thyroid hormones (our energy hormone) and growth hormones (our youth and longevity hormones).

In the human body, essential oils stimulate the secretion of antibodies, neurotransmitters, endorphins, hormones and enzymes. New research suggests that lavender E.O. can also stimulate feminine hormones, such as estrogen. When added to vitamin enriched oils, gels and lotions, they can be applied effectively to the skin to provide specific benefits and gentle fragrance.

When Essential oils are diffused into the air, they can increase atmospheric oxygen and provide negative ions, which in turn inhibit bacterial growth. Because of their ionizing actions, essential oils have the ability to break down potentially harmful chemicals and render them non-toxic.

Q. How should I use Essential Oils?

Use them, drop by drop because they are powerful (and expensive) in their E.O. form. Use them more liberally in lotions, gels, and mists. Use them as a “first line of defense” to prevent illness, strengthen the immune system, and for specific body/mind benefits like relaxation, improved concentration and sleep, for example.

Q. What makes LavenderGreen Essential Oil Synergies distinctive and trustworthy?

LavenderGreen creates its Essential Oil Synergies using organic or wild crafted Essential Oils. All of our Synergies incorporate organic, true Lavender Essential Oil because it is the most versatile of all essential oils. Therapeutic-grade lavender has been clinically evaluated for its relaxing effects. The fragrance is calming, relaxing and balancing-physically and emotionally. Our Synergies are tested by a LavenderGreen research panel comprised of health professionals and a diverse group of adult women and men have deemed effective before we offer them on our website.

Q. Contra-Indications of Essential Oils

It’s important to read the recommendations for use and to follow them like you would any medication. If you have any concerns, you should check with your personal physician.

For example, one of our Synergies, “Sandman” for sound sleep, is not recommended for babies, expecting or nursing mothers, because it could sedate developing babies. It is remarkably good for the rest of us which is why we offer it with an exception.
